Raffaele Salvoldi nasce come direttore della fotografia, lavorando per oltre dieci anni nel mondo del cinema e della pubblicità, collaborando con brand come Gessi, Lavazza, Discovery Channel e Armani. Durante il lockdown, per affrontare il silenzio forzato della pandemia, inizia a costruire nel suo soggiorno piccole architetture con 1.000 mattoncini Kapla. Quel gesto semplice diventa presto l’inizio di un nuovo percorso artistico.
Nel 2022 viene invitato a realizzare un’installazione all’interno delle sale affrescate di Casa Bossi, a Novara. L’incontro tra l’opera effimera e l’architettura storica genera un dialogo potente che cattura l’attenzione del pubblico e contribuisce a valorizzare l’edificio antonelliano. È qui che prende forma la visione: creare installazioni temporanee in luoghi culturali, capaci di aggregare le persone attraverso la bellezza e l’emozione condivisa. Ogni mostra si apre con la costruzione dell’opera e si conclude con la sua demolizione pubblica, diventando un’esperienza collettiva.
Nel 2023 nasce una collaborazione con il brand toscano Salvatori: durante la Milano Design Week viene presentata la prima installazione realizzata con blocchetti di marmo ricavati da scarti di lavorazione. L’introduzione di questo materiale apre nuove possibilità creative, tra cui la realizzazione di opere permanenti o all’aperto.
Nel 2024, nel suggestivo scenario del Castello di Agliè, Salvoldi realizza la prima vera "Città Immaginaria", una grande installazione urbana effimera che invita il pubblico a riflettere sul concetto di bellezza transitoria, in dialogo con l’architettura storica, la natura e i legami umani.
Nel 2025 nasce l’associazione culturale La Città Immaginaria APS, con lo scopo di sostenere e diffondere questo progetto su larga scala, grazie a sponsorizzazioni e contributi pubblici. L’associazione promuove installazioni site-specific in musei, castelli e spazi culturali in Italia e all’estero, coinvolgendo anche artisti di fama internazionale come Hevesh5 e KaplaBen.

During the lockdown, in an attempt to face the stillness of the pandemic, he began building small structures in his living room using 1,000 Kapla planks. What started as a simple gesture soon marked the beginning of a new artistic journey.
In 2022, he was invited to create an installation inside the frescoed rooms of Casa Bossi in Novara. The encounter between his ephemeral work and the historical architecture sparked a powerful dialogue that quickly captured the public's attention, contributing to the revitalization of the building. It was here that his vision took shape: to create temporary installations in cultural venues that bring people together through beauty and shared emotion. Each exhibition opens with the construction of the artwork and culminates in its public demolition, transforming it into a collective experience.
In 2023, Salvoldi began collaborating with the Tuscan brand Salvatori. During Milan Design Week, he unveiled his first installation made with marble blocks derived from stone processing waste. The use of this new material expanded his creative possibilities, enabling permanent and outdoor works.
In 2024, within the evocative setting of the Castello di Agliè, Salvoldi created the first large-scale "Imaginary City"—an ephemeral urban landscape that invites the public to reflect on the transience of beauty, in dialogue with architectural heritage, nature, and human relationships.
In 2025, the cultural non-profit association La Città Immaginaria APS was founded to support and expand the project internationally through sponsorships and public funding. The association promotes site-specific installations in museums, castles, and cultural venues in Italy and abroad, also collaborating with internationally renowned artists such as Hevesh5 and KaplaBen.
